Evans Supports Girl Scouts at G.I.R.L. 2017

On October 6-8, Evans employees attended the Girl Scouts trade show, G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)—an event only held once every 3 years, and devised to empower girls to step forward, learn how to be courageous, and shape one’s own future by learning how to transform the world. The event included educational events, motivational speakers, interactive, informational (and many STEM-focused) booths, and lots of entertainment, friendship-making, and inspirational experiences.

Using a pick sheet, girls moved through the line to pick out stickers, candy and prizes and put all items in a package. This demonstrated the fulfillment process—or how companies like Amazon make their way from the warehouse to the front door.

At the end of the line, quality control stepped in to make sure no items were missing, slapped on a shipping label, and girls went home with their own self-picked package. Girls with the fastest speed made it on the “leaderboard,” or the top 5 quickest, 100% accurate pick times—the record-holding number of the weekend being 17 seconds. A troop-specific leaderboard also recorded the numbers for girls in their respective troops, with one especially proficient troop with 9 girls in the running. It was an eye-opening experience for many girls, to find out what really happens after purchasing from an online shopping cart. The top two contestants at the end of the convention won Bluetooth speakers.

Evans provides complete fulfillment services for Girl Scouts through the electronic transmission of orders from the website to Evans’ system, which is then returned to the customer with shipping information. We aim to support Girl Scouts not only through the implementation of the Digital Cookie platform, but also through the education of girls, which we provide through educational events designed to instruct Girl Scouts in supply chain and technology and operations.

At Evans, we’re proud to take part in the education of Girl Scouts, providing an academic experience to shape the young leaders of tomorrow.
