Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: How Manufacturers are Thinking about Robots

Strong Interest in Robots from Many, but Lack of Resources and Expertise is Key Barrier

June 6, 2019

We have it seems clearly entered the "robot era" in supply chain, for both manufacturing and logistics.

But not every US manufacturer is on the robot bandwago - at least for now.

As evidence, witness the data shown in the graphic below, from a new report from the Manufacturing Institute and the consultants at PwC.

29% of manufacturers are marching ahead with robot deployments. However, 23% say they can't find the ROI for shop floor robots, while a small 5% of respondent don't any real need for the new-age machines.

Most interesting to SCDigest are the 36% of manufacturers which say they have interest in robots - but lack the resources and expertise to move forward effectively.
