How Can We Get Our Fresh Fruits And Vegetables Faster?

The port of Savannah, GA and Americold's PortFresh Savannah campus are open for fresh fruit and vegetable imports and exports.  And with the introduction of the USDA’s Southeast In-Transit Cold Treatment Pilot program about four years ago, opportunities for customers and vendors involved in international fruit and vegetable supply chains have increased significantly....

Northeastern ports previously dominated as the transit point for the import and export of these products, but that often leads to congestion, delays, and high overland transportation costs, consequently products could peak too soon.  But with the investments Georgia Ports Authority is making in the port of Savannah, the ever-increasing number of ocean carriers calling in to the port, and the perfect transportation channels available to and from the area, international markets are up to a week closer in transit time and fresh products can be bound for the store shelves.
