Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: Container Wait Times Continue Rising at LA and Long Beach

Dwell Time Approaching Six Days on Average

Sept. 23, 2021

Word this week that the containershp backlog at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach had reached 75 this week, as vessels wait in the ocean for a berth.

Naturally, this is causing the number of days ships wait to be unloaded to head higher, now over 5 in the monthly average for August, as shown in the graphic below, based on data from Pacific Merchant Shipping Association. In normal times, it's one or two days.

SCDigest would have guesses a longer average wait than that, frankly. Certainly seems some containers taking more than a week to unload.
