Running 24/7 to Meet Industry Demands

Eldon James – Running 24/7 to Meet Medical Industry Demands

Through proactive business continuity planning, real-time monitoring, and its DELMIAworks manufacturing ERP system, Eldon James Corp is operating 24/7 to meet its customers’ increased demand while overcoming ongoing labor shortages.

Eldon James is a world-class manufacturer of medical tubing and connection solutions based in Colorado. Using a combination of real-time monitoring, ERP, manufacturing execution system (MES), and quality management functionality, the company has up-to-the-moment, accurate insights into its supply chain, production capacity and efficiency, and product quality.

Lights-Out Manufacturing Keeps Production Running

Today, Eldon James relies on its manufacturing technology investments to help overcome the challenges of operating under growing labor constraints.

The company is running lights-out manufacturing shifts across 28 injection molding machines, relying on automation to overcome the challenges of recruiting and hiring scarce production workers.  By maintaining two manned shifts and one lights-out shift, Eldon James is allows production to run 24/7 to keep up with the increased demand for medical tubing and connectors. Using the DELMIAworks (IQMS) ERP system, the manufacturer’s management and production teams work from three facilities and have the flexibility of working at the plants or remotely, performing production planning, scheduling and operations from multiple locations.

Machines at Eldon James are monitored in real-time to give feedback to the operations teams working the production shifts. In Eldon James’ case, relying on real-time production monitoring eliminates the need to have operators at machines at all times.  Production monitoring alerts supervisors when issues arise allowing Eldon James to run with significantly fewer shop floor employees. In addition, using their DELMIAworks manufacturing execution functionality, engineering is able to connect with production remotely, and quality control can monitor output and logistics knows immediately when the product is available and ready to ship from any of the three facilities.

Eldon James Excels At Contingency And Business Continuity Planning

Notably, Eldon James continually assesses its ongoing production and business continuity plans to overcome the obstacles and challenges labor constraints are creating.  Their ERP, with its planning and forecasting capabilities, helps the company get in front of sales and production issues early. This has enabled Eldon James to meet customers’ ship dates, ensuring business continuity and maximizing customer service levels.

Supported by DELMIAworks manufacturing ERP technology, Eldon James customer service, operations, and logistics are continuing without disruption and overcoming the challenges of the ongoing labor constraints that manufacturers are facing.
