Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: A History of US Manufacturing Jobs

 

After a Long Decline in Jobs, US Reached a Bottom in 2010

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics keeps detailed track of manufacting jobs. The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis turns some of that data into nice charts.

 

See below a graph of all US manufacturing jobs since the late 1930s:

As can be seen, all manufacturing jobs peaked in the late 1970s at about 19 million, then started a long decline before reaching a sort of a bottom in 2010. Some modest increase since then, to the present total of 12.9 million, including white and blue collar jobs.
