Van Rates Respond to Seasonal Slowdown

Prices are still above the peak for 2017, but the extreme highs in the van segment are declining as we transition into what is usually the slowest month on the spot market. The biggest declines was out West, though: Denver to Albuquerque, NM , fell 35¢ to $2.18/mile. Philadelphia to Buffalo was down 29¢ at $2.98/mile.

For the markets with the highest ratio of contract freight to spot market freight you will find Albuquerque, NM, Flagstaff, AZ, and San Diego, CA. Flatbed freight has been the clear winner so far in 2017 for improvement in load-truck ratios and rates. For van freight, the top two contract markets are in southern California.
