With Christmas goods in stores before Halloween this year, I thought there was no reason that we shouldn’t also get a jump on 2022 predictions. Here’s what to look for in 2022. Near or re-shoring sourcing strategies will be evaluated to “shorten” supply chains and gain greater control of supply chain performance.

Near the end of 2021, I had the chance to make the early call on Logistics Viewpoints on what 2022 would look like across five major logistics themes. Unlike the folks projecting election results these days, I was a little more accurate and the 2022 projections have set the stage for what will happen in 2023.

And now on to this week’s logistics news. Canada banned single-use plastic shopping bags in December 2022, along with other single-use plastic items including straws and cutlery. But Amazon is on track to purchase by next year as much electricity produced by solar, wind and other carbon-free sources as it uses to power its operations.

And now on to this week’s logistics news. In September 2022, Macy’s rolled out its first-ever wood-sourcing policy for its furniture sales after more than 150 years in business. It requires the use of responsibly sourced wood or recycled or reclaimed materials. California is a major logistics hub for these items.
