Back in the fall of 2021, Walgreens announced it was closing five San Francisco stores, citing ongoing organized retail crime as the reason. At the time, Walgreens spokesperson Phil Caruso stated, “Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that.”[1]
