AIMMS Sponsors the 18th Annual Supply Chain & Logistics Summit in Barcelona

IMG_0120Last week, part of our EMEA team (Christophe, Marcel and Kim) attended the Supply Chain & Logistics Summit as a sponsor for the fifth consecutive time. The conference took place in Barcelona. The overall theme of the Summit was the Value Chain and How to Build the Competitive Supply Chain of the Future. This main topic was covered throughout the whole program. Sessions addressed subjects like:

  • Enhancing Competitiveness Through Technology
  • Supply Planning & Optimization
  • Harnessing Logistics to Satisfy Customers
  • Leveraging the Global Economy

On the first day of the Summit, Marcel Mourits, our VP Supply Chain Strategy, interviewed Chuck Robinson, Global Supply Chain Planning Director at Liberty Global, live on stage to talk about how they built a supply chain planning capability from scratch, and how they are enhancing competitiveness through AIMMS technology.

Liberty Global is a major cable company operating in 12 European countries. The company is moving from a strategy of aggressive acquisitions to one of organic growth. They are achieving this by massively developing new network infrastructure. This requires short and medium term management and control of construction projects and material supply. The required planning capability and technology to execute this operation did not exist. During the interview, Chuck explained how they were able to develop and deploy their supply chain planning capability over a period of six months.

We were happy with a great turn out. Thanks to Chuck and Marcel, we were able to connect with our audience in an interactive way and share a fantastic customer success story. To celebrate the first conference day, we had a nice dinner with new and old friends at El Nacional Restaurant.

The remaining two days we attended many other inspiring talks. It was interesting to learn about the variety of critical business challenges. We also discussed how the use of prescriptive analytics (“analytics that recommends a set of actions”) could support companies in overcoming these challenges.
