L.A. freight gets a tailwind from hurricanes and typhoons

Extra capacity takes a bite out of prices

Denver to Albuquerque was down 30¢ to $2.04/mile. Miami to Baltimore fell another 50¢ to $1.62/mile. While every market was down, the standouts were Philadelphia, Stockton, Los Angeles, and Seattle , which has slipped the most in the past month. Philly to Buffalo dropped 32¢ to $2.42/mile.

Rates rise, but gains may be temporary

Denver to Albuquerque jumped 28¢ to $2.35/mile. Miami to Baltimore slipped 75¢ to a more-normal $2.13/mile. Denver is a big beer producing market, with both large production breweries and smaller craft brewers shipping beer in vans and reefers. Denver to Oklahoma City gained 21¢ to $1.41/mile.

Spot Truckload Rates Continue a Slow-and-Steady Climb

One more 9¢ drop: Denver to Albuquerque fell to $1.66/mile. Lakeland, FL, to Baltimore climbed 26¢ to $2.00/mile. Buffalo was mostly neutral last week, and volumes were up sharply in Denver. Houston to OKC dropped 9¢ to $1.80/mile mile last week. Memphis to Dallas also dippedâ–¼9¢ to $2.09/mile.

Spot Market Gets a Strong Start to May

Denver to Albuquerque has been more up-and-down than usual, and last week it fell 10¢ for an average of $1.64/mile. The lane from Baltimore to Springfield, MA , went from super-hot to just strong, down 61¢ to $3.34/mile. mile bucked that trend. Philadelphia continued to slide: Philly to Buffalo dropped 13¢ to $2.14/mile.

Delayed Produce Could Lead to a Busy May

Denver to Albuquerque rose 10¢ for an average of 1.76/mile. Central Florida is hitting peak season, and the lane from Lakeland to Baltimore added 24¢ to $2.24/mile. The slow and steady trend of more gaining lanes than falling took a step back last week. On the top 100 van lanes, 50 were down, 41 were up, and 9 were neutral.
