Denver to Albuquerque, NM increased to $2.07/mi. As a result, several lanes to Los Angeles had sharp drops: Dallas to Los Angeles moved down to $1.27/mi. That led to an increase on the lane from Seattle to Salt Lake City , as an alternative to bringing in supplies from Denver. Seattle to Salt Lake City moved up to $1.90/mi.

Denver to Albuquerque jumped 28¢ to $2.35/mile. Elsewhere, the sharpest increase in freight activity were in Texas, where both Dallas and Houston look strong. The Super Bowl is in Atlanta this year, on the first weekend in February, and lanes to Dallas (Cowboys) and Philadelphia (Eagles) were among the leaders in rate increases.

Van volumes were down in Dallas as well as Chicago , though, and the overall spot market was basically flat week-over-week. Denver to Albuquerque got a 7¢ increase, to $2.18/mile. Chicago to Dallas dropped 18¢ to $2.17/mile. Seattle to Los Angeles also rose 9¢ to $1.48/mile. On the down side, some lanes out of Chicago had big drops last week. It wasn't just Chicago, either. Chicago to Allentown , PA, lost 17¢ to $2.82/mile.

Nogales, AZ , had been a hot market in recent weeks as a gateway for Mexican produce, but prices plunged last week: the lane to Dallas dropped 86¢ to $2.51/mile. Philly to Buffalo dropped 32¢ to $2.42/mile. Los Angeles to Phoenix fell 27¢ to $3.10/mile.
