These are typical trends for mid-January. Denver to Albuquerque, NM, rates dropped 43¢ to $2.49/mile. Rates also fell out of Allentown , but those prices are coming down from a very high point. While Philly to Boston rates were up, Allentown to Boston was down 35¢, but still higher at $4.12/mile.

Houston rates jumped up 3% higher last week, and prices out of California are trending up due to tomato production. Outbound rates in the Northeast are trending down, so the 9¢ bump on the lane from Allentown, PA, to Richmond, VA at $2.07/mile mile bucked that trend. The other 17 held steady week-over-week.

For van rates , rising lanes continue to outnumber falling lanes on a week-to-week basis, but it’s been a slow, long-term trend. The lane from Denver to Albuquerque is still one of your best bets for getting out of Colorado, but that lane lost 15¢ last week at $1.88/mile. We saw some spikes in prices out of Chicago two weeks ago as a result of that blast of Arctic weather, but those rates started to fall back to earth last week.

Denver to Albuquerque, NM , was down 33¢ to $2.04/mile. Others were down, though: Seattle to Eugene, OR , which fell 51¢ but still averaged $2.63/mile. Seattle to Stockton, CA , was down 32¢ to $1.64/mile. Buffalo to Chicago adjusted down 26¢, with the higher demand coming from the opposite direction.

Denver to Albuquerque got a 7¢ increase, to $2.18/mile. Apart from L.A. to Atlanta, rates rose on a handful of other lanes originating in the West: Seattle to Eugene , OR, added 9¢ to $3.07/mile. Seattle to Los Angeles also rose 9¢ to $1.48/mile. On the down side, some lanes out of Chicago had big drops last week.

One of the few headhaul lanes out of Denver is to Albuquerque, NM , and it gained10¢ to $2.16/mile. Increases on these Denver lanes were big enough to balance the declines on inbound rates: Denver to Chicago was up 10¢, but only averaged $1.16/mile Denver to Phoenix rose 19¢ to $1.52/mile.

Van rates are always high on the lane from Allentown to Boston to account for traffic, tolls, and the difficulty of finding loads out of Boston, but that lane hit what might have been an all-time high last week: Up 47¢ to an average of $4.47/mile.
