Outbound prices slipped lower for flatbeds in Baltimore and Savannah, which could be related to port traffic. Flatbed rates declined significantly in a handful of lanes: Raleigh to Greenville, SC plunged $1.20 Baltimore to Springfield, MA was down 61¢ to a still-high $4.57/mile. Birmingham to Chicago fell 67¢ to $2.49/mile.

Atlanta rates were down in general, but the lane to Baltimore climbed to $2.95/mile The biggest declines for the month were on lanes out of Raleigh and Baltimore. Roanoke, VA, to Harrisburg, PA, surged to $3.41/mile. mile last week. The lane from Cleveland to Harrisburg backed off some previous highs, falling to $3.56/mile.

Plenty of flatbed markets in the South and East experienced rising prices, including Birmingham, Tampa, Atlanta, Savannah, Raleigh, Harrisburg, Dallas and Phoenix. Raleigh and Las Vegas made gains in the past week, while volumes have been above par for the month in Memphis and Houston. FALLING Seasonally, we expect cold weather to lead to lower flatbed rates and volumes, and that was true for Baltimore last week. HOT MARKETS Savannah, GA , had a strong December, with flatbed rates up 11%.
