Logistics Services Providers Shift Investment Focus Outside BRIC Markets

BluJay Solutions

The emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India and China that make up the ‘BRIC’ acronym continue to forge ahead. Many manufacturers are seeking alternatives to BRIC countries, in particular China, as part of their future sourcing strategies.

What does the global trade chess board look like lately ?

Once you layer on the need to monitor and comply with forced labor regulations, understanding where your raw materials are grown or mined to comply with conflict minerals and environmental requirements, as well as product safety, and the sourcing environment becomes very complicated indeed.

Handfield’s Supply Chain Analytics Predictions for 2014

Supply Chain View from the Field

In particular, the focal BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) represent major targets for expansion, but with them come a host of new problem that enterprises have little to no experience in dealing with in terms of logistics capabilities. The globalization of organizational supply chains will continue to expand, as organizations seek growth markets in the BRIC countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. 2013 has certainly been an interesting year!

Why Global Trade Agreements must be part of your supply chain planning: Guest Post by Tim Barnes

He has put together some great advice here about how the TPP is going to dramatically impact the supply chain landscape in the near future… Supply chain decision makers play a continuous game of identifying what and where to source raw materials, the most cost effective location for assembly, and the most efficient structure of their transportation network, to achieve the ultimate goal of low COGS, good quality and delivery to their customer base in an efficient timeframe.

Random thoughts on “close-to-home-shoring” based on my travels last week…

Like me, he also believes that US and Canadian companies will be taking a much closer look at Mexico as a source of “closer to home shoring” Not only do Mexican business people speak English (for the most part), but they have a strong business work ethic, respect legal intellectual property laws, and are willing to do what it takes to be competitive.

Bangladesh Working Conditions: A Human Rights Issue? Or a Supplier Capacity Issue?

Supply Chain View from the Field

The problem stems from the fact that Walmart (as well as other retailers like Target, JC Penney, Nordstrom’s and others) source products from tier one suppliers – and audit these suppliers, require them to comply to a code of conduct, and seek to drive enforcement to the tenets of a code of conduct as identified by the ILO. This is not only an industry standard, but is now considered an essential element of low cost country sourcing, thanks to the pressure on retailers.

Near-Shoring Trend a Cause for Celebration and Concern for Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) & Air Carriers

BluJay Solutions

Or is near-shoring in 2014 and beyond simply the latest evolution in sourcing practices? . Positive growth in air freight volumes reported recently by IATA (4.5% increase year on year as at January 2014 ) were tempered by a note of caution around the increasing trend towards near-shoring.

6 Supply Chain Trends That Could Truly Shake You Up (2018 Update)

Logistics Bureau

BRICs Are Moving to Buying, Not Just Making. Now differentials in workers’ pay are disappearing as countries like Brazil, Russia, India, and China (the BRIC countries) grow richer and develop into consumer giants. Companies will need to improve performance in terms of customer satisfaction and profitability in new ways, as cost reduction through cheaper production (whether in BRIC countries or others) becomes a less practicable option.

Rapid Change is Driving the Automotive Industry – Part I

Supply Chain Nation

They don’t see it as an enabler of global manufacturing and sourcing, or as a way of increasing customer loyalty through great service. I think selecting the right markets is a big issue for automotive logistics – where should your manufacturing be based, where should your sourcing be done? In fact, we joke that BRIC should actually mean Better Rail Infrastructure and Customs. The BRIC countries and the other markets are slightly less mature markets.

What’s New in 2015 for the supply chain world? See 2014?s predictions.

Supply Chain View from the Field

While it seemed like many companies would be moving more towards the BRIC countries, global events have proven this uptake to be relatively slow. I sure called this one right…Globalization linked with increasing labor costs in countries such as China, as well as fuel costs and regulatory shifts, are driving a dramatic impact on where companies source, where they produce, and the complexity of processes required to sell to the customer.

The Drive To 100% Bio-based Plastic Bottles

What is now exciting is the on-going innovation projects by Coke and other companies to take the 70% of the bottle that is non-renewably sourced, and move it towards a 100% biobased resin technology. Growing beverage consumption in emerging markets of BRICS is expected to drive bio based PET market growth.
