Unlike general and FAK (freight all kinds) cargo, reefer carriers are extremely fragmented. This is true of any cargo but even more so with reefer cargo.

Here is an excerpt: Both shipment volume and total freight payments declined significantly from December [2012] to January [2013], as the economy slowed to a near stall.

We expected the sizzling hot freight market to cool off a little, and it did. A seasonal transition is underway in produce harvests, as we head into the back-to-school season, so there is lots of demand for temp-controlled transportation. The decline is a normal seasonal trend, reflecting a change in the mix of cargo and lanes.
