Cobalt: The Democratic Republic of Congo has 46% of global cobalt reserves and produces 70% of the world’s output. Congo is an autocracy, which means that the government controls most of the industry. You guessed it – China – which has nabbed the biggest commercial deposits of cobalt in the Congo. And how will we mine them?

We operated in the Americas, so we spent significant time in places like Canada, the US, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Honduras, but we also operated all around the globe. For example, if I was manufacturing in Mexico, it was okay to be in America manufacturing in Mexico, but if you could buy in Mexico, that was even better.

For instance China developed a large port in Angola, after which the race to extend rail lines and truck routes through Zambia to Congo to export cobalt from mines they also control was quick to follow. This influence can then extend to neighboring countries.
