Beef and other meats shipping out of Dallas pushed rates up 20¢ on the lane to Columbus. Meanwhile, the bulk of California freight has yet to hit the spot market.

Spot Market Freight Rates Soar After Hurricane Harvey

Not surprisingly, the Dallas to Houston lane rate soared from $2.40 The number of reefer loads moving from Dallas to Houston was way down, but rates jumped up to $4.29

Reefers still waiting for spring

While the Lakeland, FL market was a big winner last week — gaining over 20% more volume — those gains were more than offset by a week-over-week slump in other major reefer markets, including Fresno, Nogales, Boise and much of the Midwest. The net result was that prices dropped 3¢ in March compared to the February average.

Fresno volumes were down unexpectedly, and so were load counts out of the Ontario market in Southern California and along the border in Nogales, AZ. Dallas to Denver was up 24¢ to $2.67 Out West, Fresno to Denver lane rates two weeks ago, but fell 56¢ last week, to an average of $2.58 to Denver rose 37¢ to $3.23

Reefer Demand Spikes During Inspection Blitz

We did get the expected bump in rates out of Fresno though, and California produce shipments are expected to remain strong at least until the 4th of July. A few lanes out of California crossed the $3 mark: The biggest jump in price was on the lane from Fresno to Denver , which surged 61¢ to $3.14/mile. mile both there and back.
