Van rates rose sharply last week in Los Angeles and Stockton , and rates are rising in Dallas and Houston , although they’re still not great. On the East Coast, choose between Baltimore to the north and Raleigh to the south, or go from one to the other, with a TriHaul (triangular) route to replace the low-priced southbound leg.

Plenty of flatbed markets in the South and East experienced rising prices, including Birmingham, Tampa, Atlanta, Savannah, Raleigh, Harrisburg, Dallas and Phoenix. The national load-to-truck ratio for flatbeds increased to 32 loads per truck last week. Rising Rates. Phoenix to El Paso, TX gained 32¢ to $2.08/mi.

Outbound rates rose in Memphis and Atlanta , but fell in Raleigh and Birmingham. In Houston , the largest flatbed market by volume, rates were mostly unchanged, but Dallas outbound rates rose 6¢ per mile. Flatbed rates declined 3¢ last week, to a national average of $1.80 Rates were also down in Cleveland and Harrisburg.

Atlanta continued to improve, and the lane to Dallas climbed 15¢ to $1.78/mile mile from Nogales, AZ to Dallas , which was up 13¢ compared to the previous week. Another Mexican border crossing in McAllen, TX offered loads to Dallas for $2.42 The lane from Memphis to Dallas added 8¢ in just the last week to $2.29

Rates improved in Dallas , Atlanta , and Memphis , as well as L.A. Jacksonville is also going strong, with big rate increases on the lanes to Miami up 13¢, and to New Orleans , up 40¢ Rates are rocketing up in Raleigh , after a down month. Four major lanes out of Raleigh had double-digit increases last week.
