Severe weather causes freight rates to slip

A huge snowstorm in Denver last week closed three interstate highways: I-25, I-70 and I-76. Road closures isolated Denver from parts of the supply chain last week. That led to an increase on the lane from Seattle to Salt Lake City , as an alternative to bringing in supplies from Denver. Memphis to Atlanta increased to $2.47/mi.

Van freight gears up for the holidays

Los Angeles to Denver also increased 14¢ to $3.21/mile. Columbus to Memphis rates declined 13¢ to $1.85/mile. Both the Seattle and Los Angeles markets saw some double digit rate increases: Seattle to Eugene, OR moved up 26¢ to $2.88/mile. Los Angeles to Dallas increased 14¢ to $2.51/mile. Not So Hot.

West Coast Heats Up for Van Freight

For van freight, we’re starting to see hot markets shift westward, with big rate increases out of Seattle, Los Angeles, Denver and Stockton, CA. Columbus to Memphis also dropped 13¢ to $2.15/mile. We’re also seeing signs that things are finally starting to slow in the Midwest, but rates there are still high.

Spot Market Van Rates Soared in September

Columbus to Memphis climbed 37¢ to $2.28/mile. Chicago prices also continued to climb: Chicago to Denver added 38¢ at $3.05/mile. Freight disruptions have caused rates to skyrocket there in the past month. Columbus to Allentown, PA , surged 50¢ to an average of $3.86/mile. Chicago to Buffalo was up 37¢ to $3.27/mile.

2 Signs That the Freight Recession Really Is Over

Higher prices out of Memphis and Columbus tell us that retail traffic is moving, and higher rates out of Dallas and Seattle show us that the improvement is far-reaching. The lane from Sacramento to Denver paid 24¢ better on average, at $2.63/mile. Volumes were strong after Memorial Day, particularly in Atlanta and Los Angeles.

Van Rates Hit Highest Mark in 2 Years

For the month of May, the biggest rate increases were on outbound lanes from Memphis and Charlotte in the South, and Los Angeles and Stockton in California. Prices on the Memphis to Columbus lane kept climbing, up another 26¢ to $2.26/mile. Rates were also way up on the lanes from Memphis to Indianapolis and Memphis to Dallas.
