4 Reasons Why Lithium Battery is Better Than Lead-acid Battery

When it comes to the batteries we use in devices and/or appliances driven by solar power, we can roughly divide the battery into 4 categories, lead-acid battery, ternary lithium battery, lithium iron phosphate battery and gel battery. In this post, we’ll share with you the differences between the lead-acid battery and lithium iron phosphate battery, and see in what ways the latter out-performs the former.

1. The lead-acid battery makes stealing more difficult

This is achieved by the different install location of the lead-acid battery and the lithium battery. We can use the case of the solar power street light as an example so you would have a better idea.

Because of the slightly high price for the solar power battery, it’s not unheard of that solar power battery got stolen. The lead-acid battery was buried underground in the past, which made it handy to be stolen.

On the other side, the lithium iron phosphate battery is installed under the solar power battery panel, and because of the height of the street light pole, it’s so much harder for the battery to be stolen. In addition, if the lithium battery is protected by a unique anti-theft safety device, stealing it would close to almost impossible.

2. Lithium battery produces less pollution than the lead-acid battery

Even though the lead-acid battery is cheaper, it has relatively shorter life cycle, to the point that we may need to exchange it for the new one almost once a year. This would add too much pollution pressure to the environment.

3. Lithium battery lasts longer

Compared to the lithium battery, which can usually last for 3 to 5 years, lead-acid battery wears out easier (1 or 2 years on average), while the product warranty can last 3 years. That said, you can feel free to reach out to the manufacturers for battery support, and not having to worry about spending extra money on the new battery.

4. Lithium battery is safer to use

There is a so-called “memory effect” for the lead-acid battery, which means that when you recharge the battery before you fully discharge it, the life span of it would be affected. But you can recharge the lithium battery anytime you want, which makes it safer and easier to use.

Last but not the least, the lithium battery is much lighter than the lead-acid battery, so it’s easier for the installation. And with the development of technology, the lithium battery is more widely used than before, and it’s estimated that it would take over lead-acid battery very soon in the future.
