Telling the World about Your Reviewing Efforts

SCM Research

Putting efforts into high-quality reviews for academic journals has been a task of idealists so far. Unfortunately, these efforts are mostly invisible for appointment committees. That is a pity for two reasons: First, if researchers frequently receive review requests from good journals this indicates that they are respected by their research community.

Talking Logistics

I’ve been on the road the past three weeks attending various supply chain chain and logistics conferences, and while the discussions inside the hotel ballrooms have focused on industry trends like blockchain and the state of the transportation market, the discussions outside — which I was completely oblivious to until this morning when I drove my kids to school — have been centered on a single question: Yanny or Laurel ?

DAT has established very rigorous processes to collect and analyze rate data, and I have been very involved in designing and maintaining those processes since DAT introduced RateView in 2010.

Poverty Significantly Affects Education

Enterra Insights

One of the things developed countries have in common is good public education. No nation can achieve greatness without an educated population. An uncomfortable fact, however, is that education — even in developed countries — doesn’t provide a level playing field for students. Children living in poor neighborhoods often struggle to succeed in both school and life.

How the Fuel Surcharge Affects Truckload Freight Rates

DAT Solutions

Even though it's rarely even mentioned in a broker's rate confirmation, the fuel surcharge has a big impact on truckload freight rates. Fuel surcharges were invented in the 1970s, when an oil embargo by Arab countries caused shortages and skyrocketing prices at the pump. "Skyrocketing" is a relative term. Prices went from 38¢ per gallon in 1973 to 53¢ in 1974, then hit $1.19 per gallon in 1980.
