5 Everyday Internet Connection Problems and Solutions!

Internet connection problems

We can all agree on how frustrating internet connection problems can be when you’re in the middle of getting your work done. And nothing exhausts you more than waiting hours for a movie to download.

In simpler words, we’re too impatient when it comes to internet connections and we are aware of the damage that interrupted networks can cause to our businesses and workers.

The very first step to dealing with such problems is to identify them and then look for the appropriate solutions to overcome these issues. We have made a list of 5 common internet connection problems and offered you helpful solutions to deal with them:

1. Network throttling

Network throttling is intentional slowing down of the internet speed from the ISP’s side and mainly has nothing to do with you. In this issue, your internet service provider monitors your data usage and limits access to certain websites.

ISPs usually do this to regulate network traffic or in another case, you might have signed up for a data plan that imposes data caps. You can experience throttling when you’re about to reach your monthly data limit.

Solution

If you feel like your ISP is throttling your network you can contact their customer service and inquire about the issue. For instance, if you’ve signed up for AT&T internet, all you need to do is make a call at the AT&T phone number. The support team is available to you 24/7 and you can inquire about your current internet plan.

Ask them if your plan has any data caps implemented on it. If yes, you can switch to another package that offers speed and data allowance according to your requirements. To stay on the safe side and avoid network throttling, you should sign up for an unlimited internet plan.

2.  Access point Spacing

Another common internet connection issue is slow speed and one of the most obvious reasons for having slow speed could be moving too far from the access point of your router. The farther you move, the fewer signals will reach your device.

Or chances are that your router is placed in a remote corner of your house, from where the Wi-Fi signals get interrupted by thick concrete walls, glass, doors, or any other obstruction. Do you know that Wi-Fi signals also get interrupted by radio frequencies that could be coming from your phone, microwave, or any other electric appliances?

Solution

The best solution to this problem is relocating your router to the central point of your house. Ensure equal distribution of signals all around the house. You can also place it somewhere where you’re most likely to sit and work or near your gaming console etc. The objective is to get uninterrupted signals and for that, you have to make sure there are fewer obstructions between you and your Wi-Fi router.

3.  Insufficient bandwidth

Insufficient bandwidth is another common internet connection problem. You often find your internet speed too slow to send a large file or even download a video. Where it used to take you seconds to get certain tasks done, now it takes minutes. Your monthly internet plan is unlimited but still, it seems like you’re not getting enough bandwidth.

Solution

The very first and the sure reason for getting insufficient bandwidth is that you might have too many devices connected and consuming data at the same time. You need to cut down on the number of devices you’re not actively using and limit your devices and applications to those which are in use or needed.

The second reason could probably be malware or viruses. Check thoroughly if your devices are infected with any malware as they could be sharing the bandwidth too. If yes, then get it fixed. These small and simple fixes can really help you in having enough bandwidth for your needs.

4. Insecure Networks

Do you have open Wi-Fi at your home and expect to enjoy the best speeds? Well, that’s never going to happen because your network isn’t secure and anyone within its range can access it and use it. Which leaves slow internet for you when you need it the most. And if unfortunately, you have a limited data plan with an open network, then forget about fast connection already.

Solution

The simple solution to this problem is to protect your network with a strong password so you can limit access to it. Not only this will enable you to monitor your usage but it will also boost your network security

5. Out-dated Equipment

You’re constantly facing internet connection issues every other day and your ISP tells you that everything is okay from their side. You’ve tried all the other things like rebooting your router, considering your internet plan, relocating the router, and whatnot. But if nothing is helping you with the internet speed, then it’s probably your router. It might be too old, tired, and outdated.

Solution

Consider investing in new and updated hardware. Choose a model with an internal antenna that provides full coverage to all the access points. It might look like a costly solution to you at first but if you think of its benefits in the long run it will make more sense to you.

Final Words

No internet connection is completely perfect. But constant network interruptions are truly exhausting. We have covered the five most common internet connection problems and their simplest solutions so if you encounter any of these you know how to fix them.
