Supply Chain Graphic of the Week: eCommerce Share of Total US Retail Sales Accelerating

 

Growth has Jumped to 25% per Quarter Year over Year

Everyone knows that the ecommerce share of total US retail sales continues to grow. Now, it appears that the pandemic has taken the trajectory of that growth even higher.

 

In a new report on the US market for warehouse space, faciliy developer Prologis offered a new forecast for ecommerce share growth, as shown below:

As can be seen, Prologis now predicts ecommerce will rise to 20% of total retail sales in 2020, versus an estimate of 16.9% early in the year before the virus outbreak in the US. On-line sales are now increasing at about 25% per quarter year-over-year, versus about 15% before the crisis.

 

Prologis also predicts that on-line's share will grow to 27% of all retail by 2024 - with profound effects on business and society.
