In the retail sector, supermarkets in many countries have seen their highest weekly sales ever, as consumers stock up on goods that they fear may be in short supply. Elizabeth de Jong of the UK Freight Trade Association told the BBC that the demand has been 50 to 100 per cent above usual, and road hauliers have adapted to keep up.
