In Texas, Houston volumes rose 5%, but were down 3% in Dallas. No major van markets made any big moves in one direction or the other last week, but outbound rates in Houston and Los Angeles have both risen by 5% over the past month. Along the Gulf Coast, Houston to New Orleans was up 15¢ to an average of $2.53/mile.

California fruit and vegetables are ripening, and rates are trending up in Sacramento and Ontario. Atlanta and Houston are the number one and number two easiest places to find loads this week on DAT load boards, but rates are not great, especially in Houston. Take a load from Atlanta to Houston , for $1.58/mile,

Fresno and Sacramento have lots of loads, too. Rates from Sacramento to Portland, OR rose 28¢ last week, to $2.97 per mile, and Sacramento to Salt Lake City jumped up 19¢ per mile, to $2.73. Minneapolis is hosting the game this year, and around this time last year we saw inbound rates rise to Houston, where the previous Super Bowl was held. Miami, Denver, Sacramento and Lakeland, FL , all experienced sharp drops last week. Green Bay to Minneapolis also jumped up 48¢ to $3.49/mile

On the down side, Nogales, AZ, rates slipped lower, and Sacramento gave up the previous week’s gains in rates and volume. Miami rates also dropped 4¢ per mile, but rates and volume there may increase in the coming weeks, as ships full of South American produce are diverted from Houston to the Port of Miami.

The lane from Vegas to Sacramento jumped up to an average of $3.22/mile, Houston rates have been largely neutral for the month, but one lane took a step back last week. Cleveland demand has been relatively cool, but prices were up 3% last week - the lane to Milwaukee was up to $3.82 on solid volume increases.

There's more freight moving out of Houston this month. The exception was Sacramento , which was the only major reefer market with higher rates last week. The beer coolers for the Super Bowl in Houston must be stocked by now, too, because reefer rates on the lane from Denver to Houston fell back down to a more normal $1.65

Houston to Oklahoma City is lane influenced heavily by the energy sector, and rates fell 16¢ to $2.02/mile. Sacramento to Denver was up 26¢ to $2.55/mile. With the shift of activity from the South to the Midwest, we saw some seasonal declines on lanes out of Atlanta. One example was Atlanta to Chicago , down 14¢ to $1.47/mile.

The number-four and -five spots were taken by Houston and Dallas. Reefers were very active in Central California last week, as well, with increased volume from Fresno and a boost to outbound rates in Sacramento. On the West Coast, there were lots of loads available in Los Angeles , and rates rose 11% outbound from Stockton.
