Better weather helps push van rates upward

Memphis to Indianapolis jumped 17¢ to $2.10/mi. Memphis to Charlotte slid 7¢ to $1.95/mi. We're finally seeing the impact of better spring weather, with higher freight volumes coming out of both Chicago and Charlotte. Philadelphia to Buffalo rose 11¢ to $2.17/mi. Charlotte to Buffalo also rose 11¢ to $2.24/mi.

Van Rates Close Q2 With a Bang

Memphis had a huge load-to-truck ratio and peak volumes on Friday, trailing only Atlanta in load counts at the end of the week. The top 3 increases were on Memphis lanes: Memphis to Chicago jumped up 38¢ to $3.47/mile. Memphis to Indianapolis climbed 37¢ to an average of $3.34/mile.

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

The Memphis market posted the biggest gains for October, with outbound flatbed rates up 10%. Rock Island, IL, to Indianapolis also climbed to $3.03/mile. Volumes were up and down over the course of the month, though, as markets adjusted to constantly changing demand. Lots of major flatbed lanes were at or near $3/mile last week.
