Van rates drop to 16-month low

Denver to Oklahoma City rates rose 13¢ to $1.34/mile. Memphis to Indianapolis dipped 16¢ to $2.01/mile. And rates out of Denver are holding up, for the second week in a row. Philadelphia to Charlotte added 10¢ to $1.60/mile. Buffalo to Allentown bumped up 10¢ to $3.18/mile.

Spot Freight Volumes Get Welcomed Boost

Memphis to Indianapolis was more typical of retail lanes last week, falling 20¢ to $1.90/mile. Houston to Oklahoma City is lane influenced heavily by the energy sector, and rates fell 16¢ to $2.02/mile. With the shift of activity from the South to the Midwest, we saw some seasonal declines on lanes out of Atlanta.

Delayed Produce Could Lead to a Busy May

The top 4 were the same as last week – Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston and Dallas – but Indianapolis edged out Memphis for the no. Houston to Oklahoma City was up 10¢ to for a springtime high of $1.91/mile. Even with the dip in volumes, Dallas was still in the top 5 for van load posts on DAT load boards.
