Themes from the 2018 SCM World Leaders Forum

Kinaxis

I just returned from a very inspiring 2018 SCM World Leaders Forum in London. While I attend several supply chain conferences in any given year, SCM World is a favorite of mine for a couple of reasons. In his opening remarks, Kevin O’Marah, Chief Content Officer at SCM World, introduced the event’s theme, “Power of the Profession”. There was some concern that the role of supply chain gets elevated only when a crisis hits and product cannot ship. by Dr. Madhav Durbha.

Beware the Ship-From-Store Spin Cycle

Supply Chain Network

Seems like every so often there’s a new trend that takes the retail and e-commerce world by storm and the latest of these seems to be Ship-From -Store. An omni-channel nirvana being pumped by systems companies, and falsely supported by ill conceived surveys of analysts alike, the best thing since sliced bread this year is apparently Ship-From-Store. On the surface Ship-From-Store sounds like a great idea. Still think Ship-From-Store is a good idea?

Is Hyperloop the Next Great Supply Chain Technology?

Kinaxis

The fact that the CEO of the company leading the Hyperloop charge is committed to it being a freight transportation technology first, is pretty telling in our eyes: obviously, if it can ship freight, the Hyperloop project might have tremendous implications for the Supply Chain field, which (in large part) focuses on the efficient movement of material goods. The possibility of shipping goods at near-hypersonic speeds would obviously allow Supply Chains to be nimbler and more responsive.
