Rates and Demand Are Still High for Refrigerated Freight

Reefer rates on the lane from Sacramento to Portland soared 70¢ to $3.42/mile. Sacramento to Denver gained 29¢ at $2.55/mile. Chicago to Kansas City also had a big increase at $3.48/mile, Reefer load counts got a big boost along the Mexican border in Nogales, AZ and McAllen, TX. Fresno to Seattle was up 30¢ to $2.80/mile.

Where Did Reefer Rates Rise the Most Last Week?

Chicago to Kansas City also climbed 23¢ to $3.02/mile. Out West, Sacramento to Salt Lake City dropped 20¢ to $2.48/mile. Chicago reefer rates rose the most last week, bouncing back with higher volumes. The biggest increase was on the lane from Chicago to Denver , up 30¢ to $3.02/mile.

Reefers still waiting for spring

DAT Solutions

Volumes dropped significantly lower out of Miami, Twin Falls, Chicago, and Green Bay , which offset gains from Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Elizabeth, NJ. Chicago to Kansas City slid 19¢ to $2.08/mi. On the top 72 reefer lanes last week, rates were up on 24 lanes, down on 42 lanes, and 6 were neutral.

Truckload Rates Finally Catch Up to Freight Volumes

Out West, Sacramento to Portland gained 22¢ to $2.44/mile. Rock Island to Kansas City was also up big at $2.81/mile. Shipments out of the Santa Maria District also pushed rates up out of the Fresno market. Rates from Miami to Elizabeth, NJ , were up 32¢ to $1.91/mile. Miami to Baltimore also jumped up 21¢ to $1.75/mile.
