The initial 10 cities for the Amazon service are Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Seattle and Washington D.C., with more to follow. It’s interesting that New York, the biggest market in the country and often the launch pad for same-day services, is not among them.

Flatbed rates move lower, but they're still pretty high

Booming Oil Industry Boosts Flatbed Demand

Construction activity boosted rates out of Las Vegas : The lane to Los Angeles was up to an average of $3.31/mile. Las Vegas to Phoenix also jumped up to $2.97/mile. Continuing the regional theme out of Nevada: Flatbed rates from Reno to Seattle rose to $2.97/mile.

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

Las Vegas to Sacramento averaged $3.19/mile. Out West, Reno to Seattle declined to $1.98/mile. Lots of major flatbed lanes were at or near $3/mile last week. All rates below include fuel surcharges and are based on real transactions between brokers and carriers. Rock Island, IL, to Indianapolis also climbed to $3.03/mile.

Flatbed Markets Continue to Boom

Gains out of Las Vegas and Jacksonville, FL , suggest that construction equipment and material are on the move. A couple lanes with falling prices: Reno to Seattle was down 98¢ to $2.41/mile, mile, a sign that lumber shipments out of the Seattle area are balancing things out. Even Tampa has crossed that mark.
