Booming Oil Industry Boosts Flatbed Demand

Construction activity boosted rates out of Las Vegas : The lane to Los Angeles was up to an average of $3.31/mile. Las Vegas to Phoenix also jumped up to $2.97/mile. That pushed rates lower out of Tampa. All rates below include fuel surcharges and are based on real transactions between brokers and carriers.

Flatbed rates and volumes move upward

Plenty of flatbed markets in the South and East experienced rising prices, including Birmingham, Tampa, Atlanta, Savannah, Raleigh, Harrisburg, Dallas and Phoenix. On the other hand, flatbed prices trended down in a handful of key markets, including Jacksonville, Las Vegas, Cleveland, Pittsburgh , and Roanoke. Rising Rates.

Flatbed Markets Adjust to Holidays, Regulations, and Weather

Las Vegas to Salt Lake City was up 28¢ to $2.71/mile. Rates were also weaker out of Atlanta and Tampa. Tampa to Atlanta is one of the weakest flatbed lanes, and the rate was down another 7¢ to just $1.39/mile. Over on the East Coast, the lane from Baltimore to Springfield, MA , surged 79¢ to $4.35/mile.

Flatbed freight regains footing in December

Raleigh and Las Vegas made gains in the past week, while volumes have been above par for the month in Memphis and Houston. Tampa also enjoyed strong numbers in December, and the lane to Atlanta was up to $2.03/mile. HOT MARKETS Savannah, GA , had a strong December, with flatbed rates up 11%. Birmingham to Chicago surged to $2.36/mile

Atlanta continues to set new records: Outbound rates there have climbed 10% in the past month. A couple strong lanes last week: Raleigh to Greenville, SC , jumped up to $2.94/mile.
