Target has been testing high-capacity van routes at Dallas and Minneapolis sortation centers. Cargo ships lost 661 containers at sea in 2022, down from the 15-year average of 1,566 lost per year, according to the latest figures from the World Shipping Council (WSC).

The majority of fireworks are manufactured in China, and between the COVID-19 shutdowns and sky-high shipping costs, most importing American cities either can’t get the fireworks supply or can’t afford it.

Our supply chain involves a contract manufacturer, a third-party testing facility, warehouses to store inventory and a freighting company. For example, if my contract manufacturer is late with an order it can cause me to incur excess costs with the freighting and warehousing companies, respectively.

West coast ports race to clear ship backlog by August. The retailer began testing home package delivery from a new sorting center in its hometown of Minneapolis earlier this year.
