White Paper: Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) on S/4HANA

Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) is an SAP planning module that was introduced as part of SAP Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) in 1998. As the name suggests, it is used for carrying out detailed scheduling for short-term planning, considering capacity and material constraints. PP/DS generates real and executable supply plans that take into consideration material and resource availability (in-house machine capacities).

As SAP moves on with its future roadmap for digital transformation by introducing next-generation products, SAP APO will not be supported beyond 2025. Some of the planning functionalities are now part of SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP), while PP/DS for short-term planning is now embedded within SAP S/4HANA – though it is important to note that the activation of PP/DS functionality is subject to additional license cost.
