One Southeast regional lane to avoid: Raleigh to Baltimore. Domestic produce markets in California and Southern Georgia picked up steam. Atlanta continued to improve, and the lane to Dallas climbed 15¢ to $1.78/mile mile last week. There was even a surge in freight out of Florida last Friday. The average rate for reefer loads was $2.02/mile

October Flatbed Rates Were Highest of the Year

Lots of major flatbed lanes were at or near $3/mile last week. The biggest declines for the month were on lanes out of Raleigh and Baltimore. Volumes were up and down over the course of the month, though, as markets adjusted to constantly changing demand. Las Vegas to Sacramento averaged $3.19/mile. mile last week.

Flatbed rates move lower, but they're still pretty high

Last week on DAT's top 78 flatbed lanes, 38 moved higher, 37 were lower, and 3 were neutral. Flatbed rates declined significantly in a handful of lanes: Raleigh to Greenville, SC plunged $1.20 That pipe is manufactured almost entirely of imported steel. Flatbed pricing remains volatile though, with large swings in both directions.

Flatbed ratio reverses 10-week decline

Roanoke is also home to warehouses and distribution centers that take advantage of access to rail service and a 2- or 3-hour driving distance to sea ports. Some flatbed sectors, however, are slowing seasonally: Raleigh to Miami lost 60¢ to $2.91/mile, Roanoke to Harrisburg added 59¢ to $3.63/mile. NOT SO HOT.
