The Suez Canal The Suez Canal is an artificial waterway that spans the Isthmus of Suez in northeastern Egypt and connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Gulf of Suez, an arm of the Red Sea. The Suez Canal Company's shares were purchased by Great Britain in 1874, making it the sole owner. It is approximately 190 kilometers long.
