Shift in the centers of gravity of the demand: As of the beginning of April 2022, about four million Ukrainians have left the country for neighboring countries such as Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova. This has resulted in massive spikes in demand for basic necessities in these countries. Now, this risk is further amplified.

Poland’s bordering countries include Belarus, Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine. Poland’s manufacturing centers around machinery, iron and steel, coal mining, chemicals, shipbuilding, food processing, glass, beverages and textiles. Food and live animals are the other significant exports.

In 1993, the country split into two components, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Czech Republic is a land-locked country in central Europe between Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Austria. The government is looking for ways to encourage migration of qualified workers from nearby countries such as Slovakia and Ukraine.
