This past weekend, I decorated my house with my kids with our usual Halloween flare: skeletons, spiders, skulls, gravestones, and the ever-present flying bat. I keep reading reports that companies such as Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy are planning to kick off massive holiday deals in late October / early November.

According to a recent UNHCR report , nearly 60 million people were forcibly displaced in 2014 from countries such as Iraq, Eritrea, and Afghanistan. The goal is to reduce the lead time and costs required to service refugee camps. More than 12 million people are in need of humanitarian aid as a result of the civil war raging in Syria.

The vast majority of cocoa is grown by smallholder farmers , and Uncommon Cacao reports in their 2016 Transparency Report that many of these smallholder farmers live on an estimated $2 per day. Using the SupplyShift platform, Uncommon Cacao has begun a project to understand the effects of cocoa purchasing on all the links of the chain.
