In 2013, President Xi Jin Ping introduced an initiative to construct a modern-day equivalent of the Silk Road as part of the country’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This will include a rail route stretching from Chongqing, China, through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, and Poland to Duisburg in Germany.
