In March so far, volumes are no better than February, and since capacity has been abundant, rates continue slipped. An abundance of capacity has caused van rates to move lower, even though freight volumes in 2019 are actually above previous years' levels. Road closures isolated Denver from parts of the supply chain last week.

Extra capacity takes a bite out of prices

That extra capacity cut the national van load-to-truck ratio nearly in half. Denver to Albuquerque was down 30¢ to $2.04/mile. Reefer load counts rebounded 25% last week after the New Year’s interruption, but once again there was plenty of capacity to handle the demand.
