Nike’s Global E-Commerce Distribution Center in Leuven Belgium

NC State SCRC

I had the opportunity to accompany a group of executives from Anheuser Busch Inbev on a tour of Nike’s global distribution facility in Leuven Belgium this week. In turn, these containers sit for about 5 days before being transported to the Nike distribution center next door and stocked inside the DC.

Complex costs of transportation

Supply Chain Movement

To anticipate and respond to high customer demand, a modern Transportation Management System (TMS) needs to optimize inventory allocation. By consolidating at the source, several shipments can be combined into one, thereby reducing the number of shipments even before the shipments arrive at the Logistics Service Provider (LSP). A TMS with inventory allocation enables shippers to monitor shipments down to the package level. Belgium.

This Week in Logistics News (April 18-22, 2016)

Talking Logistics

But let’s not let the elevator bring us down, let’s go crazy…after this week’s supply chain and logistics news. As the folks on Sesame Street would say, the future of transporting goods and people is brought to you by the letter ‘D’ — as in droids, drones, and driverless. Germany, Belgium, Estonia and the U.S., Demand has also taken a hit from persistently high inventories at major retailers, which reduces the need for shippers to restock stores and warehouses.

Warehousing, the Rise of IT, Automation, and Now… Robotics

Transport optimisation considerations dictate that warehousing is used at the end-point of a transport system to amass enough products for a full load for the subsequent transport system. Products that are best transported in high volume (like agricultural products) will need to be warehoused in locations that make access easy for large vehicles, and so on.
