It was the first metal to be smelted (about 5,000 BC, according to Wikipedia); the first to be shaped into molds; and the first to be alloyed with another metal—tin—to manufacture a sturdier cousin: bronze. The analysts observe that a key variable will be the level of investment by miners and other value chain players in new copper capacity.
