In the report, ATA projects the shortage to reach 50,000 by the end of 2017 and if current trends hold the shortage could grow to more than 174,000 by 2026. In the current forecast, the driver shortage will be about 110,000 drivers by 2022, so it appears that the driver shortage problem has improved by 130,000 drivers since the 2013 forecast.
