Spring freight rates: Stable or stuck?

Van volumes are actually up compared to where they were at this time last year, but that has been met with increased capacity. Houston to Oklahoma City slipped 12¢ to $1.92/mi. Miami absorbed existing capacity while Lakeland rates got a boost. Fresno volumes were up, but other parts of California went softer.

Major Freight Markets Saw Biggest Rate Surge of the Year

Freight patterns showed increased retail trade ahead of Memorial Day weekend, and since some drivers finished the week up early ahead of the holiday weekend, capacity also tightened. Houston to Oklahoma City rose 24¢ to an average of $2.04/mile. Fresno to Denver surged 52¢ to $2.70/mile mile on average.
