The term reefer simply refers to a truck, trailer, or shipping container equipped with a refrigeration unit that transports temperature sensitive cargo. Unlike general and FAK (freight all kinds) cargo, reefer carriers are extremely fragmented. This is true of any cargo but even more so with reefer cargo.

We expected the sizzling hot freight market to cool off a little, and it did. A seasonal transition is underway in produce harvests, as we head into the back-to-school season, so there is lots of demand for temp-controlled transportation. The decline is a normal seasonal trend, reflecting a change in the mix of cargo and lanes.
