Memphis outbound rates were down for the week, but rates are rising in the Midwest, starting with Columbus. This could be due to retail re-stocking for back-to-school season, which would be a good sign. Hot Markets include: Jacksonville, Savannah, Raleigh, and Roanoke.

Freight patterns showed increased retail trade ahead of Memorial Day weekend, and since some drivers finished the week up early ahead of the holiday weekend, capacity also tightened. Memphis to Columbus was up 17¢ to $1.94/mile. Rates on the top 100 van lanes showed the strongest surge of the year. Out West, L.A.
