Rates and Demand Are Still High for Refrigerated Freight

Chicago to Kansas City also had a big increase at $3.48/mile, Florida rates continued to slide: Miami to Atlanta dropped 40¢ to $1.29/mile, Reefer rates on the lane from Sacramento to Portland soared 70¢ to $3.42/mile. Fresno to Seattle was up 30¢ to $2.80/mile. Sacramento to Denver gained 29¢ at $2.55/mile.

Where Did Reefer Rates Rise the Most Last Week?

Chicago to Kansas City also climbed 23¢ to $3.02/mile. As you can tell from the Hot Market Map, brokers and shippers aren't having a hard time finding reefer trucks in Florida and Georgia , and the lane from Miami to Atlanta was down 14¢ to just $1.22/mile. Denver to Salt Lake City climbed 15¢ to $1.80/mile.

Reefers still waiting for spring

Volumes dropped significantly lower out of Miami, Twin Falls, Chicago, and Green Bay , which offset gains from Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Elizabeth, NJ. Chicago to Kansas City slid 19¢ to $2.08/mi. The national load-to-truck ratio for reefers was 2.6 loads per truck last week. Grand Rapids to Atlanta dropped 22¢ to $2.51/mi.

Truckload Rates Finally Catch Up to Freight Volumes

Miami continued to ship lots of reefer roads, while Lakeland in the central part of the state joined the Florida parade. Rates from Miami to Elizabeth, NJ , were up 32¢ to $1.91/mile. Miami to Baltimore also jumped up 21¢ to $1.75/mile. Rock Island to Kansas City was also up big at $2.81/mile.
