Atlanta to Miami rose 54¢ to $3.19/mile. These rates will likely change a lot in the coming weeks, but they’ve stayed high through the early part of this week: The biggest increase was on the lane from Atlanta to Miami , which jumped up 68¢ to $3.34/mile last week.

Prices out of Miami and Lakeland plummeted, but the ripple effects also led to higher outbound rates in Atlanta , as prices adjust and demand shifts northward to Georgia produce. Miami to Baltimore dove 59¢ to $2.91/mile.

Florida rates continued to slide: Miami to Atlanta dropped 40¢ to $1.29/mile, which is more typical for this time of year. Seasonal harvests are winding down, but capacity is still tight for reefer freight. That’s led to higher reefer rates on the West Coast and in the Midwest.

Atlanta to Miami was down 22¢ to $3.43/mile. The national average van rate rose for the fifth week in a row. At $1.97 per mile , the average rate in September was 18¢ higher than the August average, and 35¢ higher than September 2016. The national load-to-truck ratio also hit 7.0

Miami to Elizabeth, NJ , fell 27¢ to $2.10/mile. Last week, the national load-to-truck ratio for vans was the highest it's been since March 2014. That was back when demand for trucks skyrocketed because extreme winter weather caused massive disruption to supply chains.
