Freight volumes were up more than 20% in the Lakeland, Florida market, as well as in Sacramento and Fresno , California. Fresno to Denver surged 40¢ to $2.24/mi. Fresno to Boston gained 19¢ to $2.23/mi.

Reefer Demand Spikes During Inspection Blitz

Refrigerated freight was met with tight capacity last week, with the annual Roadcheck inspection blitz taking many trucks off the road. We did get the expected bump in rates out of Fresno though, and California produce shipments are expected to remain strong at least until the 4th of July. Miami to Baltimore was down 33¢ to $2.28/mile.

Major Freight Markets Saw Biggest Rate Surge of the Year

Spot Market Volumes Are Strong, but Rates Still Lag

The tighter capacity led to a 21¢ spike on the lane from Lakeland to Charlotte at $1.68/mile. Fresno to Denver is still well below summer pricing, but it picked up 21¢ to $2.14/mile The lane from Dallas to Columbus jumped up 33¢ to $2.02/mile. mile last week. It was better than usual in Miami on Friday.
