Currently, this has not made a substantial impact on the freight market, but we are seeing signs that the industry is beginning to recover. Additionally, according to Freight Waves, “outbound tender rejections have increased week-over-week for the first time since the OTRI peaked at 19.25% on March 28.”. Southeast Logistics.

To effectively track each state’s progress in reopening and how freight is impacted, we will publish a market update for the coming weeks as the country eases out of lockdowns. . Increases in volumes started climbing this week steadily but still down 10-15% year-over-year according to Freight Waves’ Sonar indexes. .

Produce season transportation can have an impact on your freight, even if you do not ship grains, fruits, or vegetables. Idaho is nearly synonymous with potatoes but that is not all the state grows. Kansas’ produce season transportation spikes influence freight capacity and rates in early summer continuing through August.

Look for loads of trees leaving Oregon, and potatoes out of Idaho or North Dakota. Those other dark red areas on the Hot States map, in Montana and South Dakota, signal a shortage of trucks without a lot of available loads. Twin Falls, Idaho is a great source for outbound reefer loads, prior to Thanksgiving.

VAN TRENDS: Oregon and North Dakota are showing as dark red on the Hot States map above, due to a relative shortage of trucks, but there aren't necessarily a lot of loads available in either state. REEFER TRENDS: Idaho lit up the Hot States map last week, and with good reason.
